Leonardo Lectures

Another format of the “Leonardo” project are the “Leonardo” lectures. Here, renowned speakers address major social challenges from a broad perspective and discuss them together with students.

In cooperation with the Charlemagne Prize Society, the guests have included the French President, Emmanuel Macron and the leading Belarusian political activists Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Veronica Tsepkalo and Maria Kalesnikava (represented by her sister Tatsiana Khomich).

Impressions from the lecture with the Charlemagne Prize winners 2022

With Maria Kalesnikava, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya and Veronica Tsepkalo, the Board of Directors of the Society for the Award of the International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen in 2022 honors three courageous women who, under the most difficult political conditions, at the risk of their personal freedom and integrity, stood up to the dictator of Belarus; three outstanding personalities who stood up for what is at the core of the European project: human rights, peace and freedom, the rule of law, democracy and solidarity.

With their resolute and fearless commitment, the three Belarusian leading figures have become an important role model for the democratic struggle for freedom not only for hundreds of thousands of compatriots, but far beyond the Belarusian border. On Mai 25th the designated winners of the Charlemagne Prize visited the RWTH Aachen. Here they were available to students and an interested external audience for a discussion on current European issues.
