What have you always wanted to ask Rabbi Pinchas Goldschmidt? This seminar will give you the opportunity to do just that.
The Charlemagne Prize is awarded annually to personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the unity of Europe. In recent years, the prizewinners have included UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, the three Belarusian opposition activists Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, Veronica Tsepkalo and Maria Kalesnikava and, last year, Volodymyr Selensky and the Ukrainian people. In 2024, the prize will be awarded to XY. It is a tradition that the prizewinners always visit RWTH Aachen University and engage in dialogue with students at a large ceremony.
As part of the Charlemagne Prize framework programme, this seminar offers the opportunity to discuss Europe and its current challenges as well as the current awarding of the prize with high-profile guests from politics and culture.
The focus is on preparing for the visit of the Charlemagne Prize winner. You are in demand! Ask the question that interests you the most. We will prepare the discussion together and discuss possible topics.
Please note that participation is only possible after prior registration. Unregistered persons will not be admitted.
Learning Outcomes
Students are familiar with the Charlemagne Prize, its idea and history. They will be able to categorise the current laureate in the context of current political and cultural events.
The students reflect on possible discussion topics and questions, they reflect on their personal points of reference to the topic and evaluate these with regard to the general relevance of their questions.
Students learn how to deal with pressurised situations. They discuss in a public setting with a prominent public figure.
