In the module “Perspectives on Mobility – 150 Years of Mobility Drivers RWTH” we want to discover the past 150 years of mobility development at selected stations together with you and then draw the conclusion: What can the role of the RWTH Aachen University in the mobility of the future look like? We will ask experts from the RWTH profile area Mobility & Transport Engineering and the Institute for Innovation and Technology (iit), among others, and discuss this question in detail with them. Your opinion is requested!
The focus will be particularly on the point of view of different actors – as well as the historical approach: The present is the product of the past; those who understand the latter can shape the future. This is where we want to explore the RWTH as a driver of innovation. Let us innovate only in technical isolation or holistically, considering factors such as social acceptance, economic efficiency or environmental compatibility. Ultimately, we believe that mobility must be understood and developed as a dynamic socio-technical system.
The corona pandemic has given this approach new strong, even disruptive impulses towards digitality. The mobility-specific change in awareness will therefore be the guiding principle of the module
Learning Outcomes
The module contents should enable students to systematically interpret mobility and its drivers on a historical basis and to actively and critically accompany research and teaching. Recommendations for the definition of sustainable mobility research and concepts should be developed independently.
Accordingly, the module attaches great importance to communication between students and lecturers, i.e. all sessions include a 45-minute discussion part. Target-oriented information material is available in advance in the learning room.
