Contents

Animals have accompanied us since time immemorial – whether as farm animals, as pets or as wild animals in nature. It has always been a matter of course for us humans that animals are at our service and can be freely ‘used’ for our needs. However, more and more people are questioning this self-evident fact and are striving for a new attitude with regard to our treatment of animals, which no longer regards animals merely as objects. Not only ethical and moral aspects matter, but also emotional and cultural factors.

Learning Outcomes

In this lecture series, we would like to discuss whether our treatment of animals is based on a historical-religious or ignorant “injustice” and what responsibility we as a society have towards animals. We look forward to exciting discussions and a lively exchange about whether and if so, how we should change our attitude towards animals so that we no longer regard them as lawless suppliers of raw materials, research objects or as objects of sport or entertainment, but as living beings to be considered morally.
